Freezing order

Also known as an asset freezing order or freezing injunction (formerly known as a Mareva injunction). An order preventing the disposal of assets by the respondent. Typically, a freezing injunction is sought to preserve the defendant's assets until judgment can be obtained or satisfied. For more information, see Quick guide, Freezing orders and Practice note, Freezing orders: an overview.
In the context of family proceedings, this may also be an order made under section 37(2)(a) of the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973 (MCA 1973) preventing a party dealing with assets in such a way as to defeat a claim for financial relief.
For the meaning of "freezing order" in the context of occupational pensions, see Freezing order (Pensions Act 2004).
