The Department of Communities and Local Government has published an informal consultation document concerning the admitted body status (ABS) provisions in the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). The starting point for the consultation is that the ABS is a useful way for dealing with pensions in the process of contracting out of local authority functions. The fundamental concept of the ABS therefore does not need to be changed. But some stakeholders are concerned that the detailed arrangements are not always being implemented as intended. The consultation outlines three approaches for dealing with those concerns:
