This note provides an overview of the European Commission's review of the Insurance Mediation Directive (2002/92/EC) (IMD), which was carried out during 2010/11. The note includes an overview of IMD-related work carried out at the EU level prior to the review. The Commission carried out the review for a number of reasons, including to address issues arising from differences in the way member states have transposed the IMD, and to align the IMD with the Solvency II Directive (2009/138/EC).
