In January 2010, a new dispute resolution facility housing some of the top international ADR institutions and a state of the art hearing centre for arbitration and mediations opened.
On 21 January 2010, Senior Minister Prof S Jayakumar officially opened Maxwell Chambers, a dispute resolution facility housing some of the top international ADR institutions and a state of the art hearing centre for arbitration and mediations. It is the world's first integrated dispute resolution complex of its kind, offering a one-stop experience for its clients.
The new centre's facilities, which are available 24/7 for reservations, include:
  • 14 custom-designed and fully equipped hearing rooms and 12 preparation rooms.
  • Facilities for long-term document storage.
  • Wireless internet coverage.
  • Simultaneous translation and transcription, audio-visual and video conferencing facilities.
  • Business centres fully equipped with computers, printers, fax machines and photocopiers.
  • Technical support and secretarial services.
Besides the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), many international arbitral institutions and national organisations from around the world now have offices in Maxwell Chambers, including the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), the Permanent Court of Arbitration (or PCA) and the ICC, amongst others.
With this new facility, Singapore is likely to strengthen its position as a leading arbitration venue. Further, ICSID's Secretary General has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Maxwell Chambers, meaning parties to ICSID cases will now be able to hold hearings at the facility - further enhancing its position as a compelling venue.
