Generating Station

Also known as a power station or power plant. A station that consists of electric generators, prime movers, and auxiliary equipment for converting mechanical, chemical, or nuclear energy into electric energy. The nature of the prime mover varies depending on the fuel being used to generate the electricity. For example, the prime mover in:
  • A hydropower plant is a water wheel or hydraulic turbine.
  • A nuclear or geothermal plant is a steam turbine.
  • A wind power plant is a wind turbine.
