Case Management/Electronic Case Filing (CM/ECF)

The platform used to electronically file documents in federal court. CM/ECF allows federal courts to maintain electronic case files and offer electronic filing over the internet.
If the court:
  • Uses NextGen CM/ECF, an attorney uses the same login and password to access PACER and CM/ECF (generally referred to as a Central Sign-On account).
  • Does not use NextGen, an attorney must file using a separate CM/ECF login. In these courts, an attorney:
    • cannot use PACER credentials for e-filing; and
    • must create a separate court-specific CM/ECF account.
