Chapter 13

The chapter of the Bankruptcy Code that provides relief for an individual debtor who has regular income (this usually means wages) and as of the petition date owes no more than $419,275 in unsecured debts and $1,257,850 in secured debts (these amounts are periodically adjusted for inflation). Chapter 13 is intended primarily for consumer debtors who want to devote some of their postpetition earnings to pay all or a percentage of their prepetition debts over a period of three to five years.
