It has been reported that draft regulations on the abolition of the default retirement age (DRA) have been laid before Parliament. These are now available online although not yet appearing on the BIS website. The new law, which makes it unlawful to dismiss someone on grounds of age unless there is objective justification, will take effect on 6 April 2011, subject to transitional provisions. The last date for dismissing someone under the existing statutory retirement procedure will be 5 April 2011.
