United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)

An international treaty which has been adopted by nearly all countries to consider ideas and solutions to reduce global warming world-wide. The UNFCCC's ultimate goal is to stabilize greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to a safe level that prevents dangerous human interaction with the climate system. It does not bind or enforce any regulations on member countries. The UNFCCC created the Kyoto Protocol in 1997.
For more information on the UNFCCC and its role in reducing GHG emissions, see Practice Note, UNFCCC, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement and Practice Note, UNFCCC Conferences.
