Integrated Project Delivery (IPD)

A construction project delivery system predicated on collaboration between at least the three primary project participants:
The primary participants enter into an agreement in which each brings its expertise to the design and construction of the project. The defining traits of IPD are:
  • A management structure that:
    • involves all primary participants in decision-making during each phase of the project; and
    • eliminates claims by establishing a collaborative approach to problem solving.
  • Shared financial risk and rewards.
  • An approach that values project success over individual goals.
  • Increased use of technology, such as Building Information Modeling (BIM).
For a discussion of IPD and other widely used delivery systems on privately owned projects, see Practice Note, Private Construction Project Delivery Systems: Overview.
