Developments that may be of interest to arbitration practitioners for the week to 21 October 2015.
We report in brief below on other developments that may be of interest to arbitration practitioners:
  • The International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) has published its 2015 Annual Report. The report covers developments and caseload statistics for the past fiscal year, including that ICSID administered 243 proceedings (the most ever administered in a single fiscal year) and that the number of new cases registered also increased, with 52 new cases registered, bringing the overall number of ICSID cases to 525.
  • The Arbitration and Mediation Services (Equality) Bill 2015 is due to have its second reading in the UK House of Lords on 23 October 2015. The Bill proposes amendments to various statutes, including the Arbitration Act 1996, regarding the application of equality legislation to arbitration and mediation services.
  • The Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to increase cooperation between the two organisations.
  • The Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA) and the International Arbitration Institute of the University of Miami School of Law have signed a Collaboration Agreement to promote co-operation between the two institutions in the field of arbitration and alternative dispute resolution.
  • Reportedly, plans are underway for a new international arbitration centre in Mumbai. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted the need for a new centre to cater for the international business community.
