Section 212 notice

A notice which a public company could issue under section 212 of the Companies Act 1985 enabling it to investigate the identity and other details of any person it knew, or suspected, was (or was at any time in the preceding three years) interested in its shares.
Section 212 was repealed with effect from 20 January 2007 and replaced by section 793 of the Companies Act 2006. For information on a public company's right to investigate who has an interest in its issued share capital under Part 22 of the Companies Act 2006 and, specifically, a company's power to send a section 793 notice, see Practice note, Investigating interests in a public company's shares: Part 22, Companies Act 2006.
