DAC

The Departmental Advisory Committee on Arbitration Law. A committee set up in 1985 and disbanded in 1997, which examined the operation of arbitration legislation and improvements to the system of arbitration in England and Wales. Under the chairmanship of Lord Justice Saville (as he then was), the DAC drafted the Bill which eventually became the Arbitration Act 1996, and also produced two DAC Reports, which are used as an aid in construing the Act.
