Estoppel
In its broadest sense, an equitable doctrine that prevents a party to a lawsuit from asserting a right or fact that is contrary either to the party's:
- Past conduct.
- Previous allegations or denials.
A defendant who raises estoppel as an affirmative defense alleges that the plaintiff's own actions prevent it from seeking a remedy in court.
