On May 5, 2015, US Secretary of Labor, Thomas Perez, announced that the US DOL has submitted to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) the DOL's proposed rule amending the FLSA overtime regulations. The revision of the overtime regulations was ordered by President Obama in March 2014 in order to simplify the regulations and expand the number of workers who qualify for overtime protection; see Legal Update: White House Directs DOL to Update FLSA Overtime Provisions. Following OMB's review, which typically lasts 30 to 60 days, the proposed rule will be published in the Federal Register for public comment. The scope of the regulations may ultimately be broader than simply overtime, but the proposed language is not currently accessible for public review or analysis.
