This note deals with the legal issues arising out of the surveillance of employees and other workers in the workplace. Referring to the Information Commissioner's Office guidance on the lawful monitoring of workers, it considers various types of monitoring available to employers including their ability to monitor telephone calls, email, use of the internet and how they can use CCTV.
