On 1 March 2011 the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA) adopted new arbitration rules, based on the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules 2010 with minor modifications reflecting CRCICA's role as an arbitral institution and appointing authority. The rules will apply to arbitral proceedings commencing after 1 March 2011.
The Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA) has adopted the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules 2010 (for further background information on those rules, see Legal update, UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules 2010: key changes).
The UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules 1976 have previously been adopted by numerous arbitral institutions, but CRCICA is now the second arbitration centre to adopt the 2010 rules (see Legal update, KLRCA adopts UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules 2010). The CRCICA was established in 1979 under the auspices of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organisation, an intergovernmental organisation comprising 47 governments of the Asian and African regions, in co-operation with the government of Egypt.
