Resources to help counsel prepare for and conduct an arbitration under the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC) Arbitration Rules.
The SCC Arbitration Institute was established in 1917 and is headquartered in Stockholm. The SCC has a Board (which makes decisions on jurisdiction, appointment of arbitrators, challenge to arbitrators and the costs of the arbitration) and a Secretariat (which handles the daily case management, organisation of events, producing publications and so on). The latest version of the SCC Rules came into force on 1 January 2023 and apply to arbitrations commenced on or after that date. The previous rules, the SCC Arbitration Rules 2017, came into force on 1 January 2017 and apply to arbitrations commenced on or after that date and before 1 January 2023. Arbitrations commenced before 1 January 2017 are governed by the SCC Arbitration Rules 2010. There are also separate rules for expedited arbitrations. While the SCC has no regional centres, it administers arbitrations with seats all over the world.
This Toolkit offers a selection of Practical Law Arbitration resources designed to give arbitration practitioners an understanding of several important aspects of arbitration at the SCC, including:
  • Drafting an arbitration agreement providing for SCC arbitration.
  • Conducting an arbitration under the SCC Arbitration Rules, including:
    • appointing an arbitrator;
    • procedure;
    • the award; and
    • modifications to the award and enforcement.
The Toolkit also contains a useful list of links to SCC resources.
