Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA)

Established in 1988, the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) is one of the institutions that make up the World Bank Group. MIGA promotes direct investment and economic growth in developing countries by providing political risk insurance against non-commercial risks such as expropriation (including creeping expropriation), currency inconvertibility, war, acts of terrorism, civil disturbances, and governmental breach or repudiation of contract. MIGA also provides advisory and mediation services. For more information on MIGA's role in cross-border projects, see Practice Notes, Political Risk Insurance: Is it Necessary? and Project Finance: Sources of Available Financing.
