On 14 May 2010, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced that it has reached a proposed settlement with Agilent Technologies, Inc. (Agilent) and Varian, Inc. (Varian) to resolve charges that their transaction would reduce competition in the markets for three types of scientific measurement instruments.
