The European Parliament plenary session, on 2 February 2012, called on the European Commission to examine thoroughly the appropriate legal basis for any measures in the field of collective redress. On 4 February 2011, the Commission launched a horizontal public consultation on a coherent European approach to collective redress. The purpose of this consultation was to identify common legal principles on collective redress.
