An overview of the main changes to the planning system introduced by the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). The NPPF came into force on 27 March 2012. This practice note refers to the NPPF published in 2012.

On 19 February 2019, a revised NPPF was published (which was subsequently amended on 19 June 2019). We plan to write a new Practice note on the revised NPPF.
