Amendments to Singapore's arbitration laws have entered into force.
On 1 June 2012, the Singapore
International Arbitration (Amendment) Act 2012
and
Foreign Limitation Periods Act 2012
came into force.
In 2011, the Singapore Ministry of Law published draft bills proposing amendments to Singapore's International Arbitration Act (IAA) and a Proposed Enactment of the Foreign Limitation Periods Act (see
Legal update, Proposed amendments to Singapore's International Arbitration Act
and
Article, Singapore: round-up 2011/2012
). On 8 March 2012, the Government of Singapore introduced the Bills to Parliament, which were passed without amendment on 9 April 2012.
Both Acts were Gazetted on 1 June 2012 and entered into force on that date. For a summary of the legislative changes, see
