On June 15, 2012, the Connecticut governor signed legislation amending Connecticut's data security breach notification law (Conn. Gen. Stat. § 36a-701b). The amended law goes into effect on October 1, 2012.
On June 15, 2012, Connecticut Governor Daniel Malloy signed legislation amending the state's data security breach notification law (Conn. Gen. Stat. § 36a-701b). The changes become effective on October 1, 2012.
Connecticut law will now require state businesses and persons required to notify Connecticut residents of a data breach to also notify the attorney general. Notice to the Connecticut Attorney General must be given no later than when notice is provided to residents and customers.
The Vermont Attorney General recently announced similar changes to Vermont's security breach notification law (see Legal Update, Amendments to Vermont's Security Breach Notification Law).
