This Legal Update reports on significant changes to the local rules and procedures for all US federal district and appellate courts between July 31 and August 6, 2013. It also reports on changes to the individual practice rules for judges in select district courts during this time period.
DC Circuit
DC Circuit Court of Appeals
The US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit announced that effective September 1, 2013, customers paying court fees with cash must pay with exact change.

Eastern District of New York
Magistrate Judge Gary R. Brown updated his Individual Practice Rules. His previous rules are available here.

Southern District of New York
The US District Court for the Southern District of New York announced a new edition of the Electronic Case Filing (ECF) Rules and Instructions, effective August 1, 2013. The previous version of the rules is available here.

The US District Court for the Western District of Virginia announced amendments to its local rules, effective August 1, 2013.

Eastern District of Texas
The US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas issued a general order amending local rule CV-38(a).
Sixth Circuit
Eastern District of Tennessee
The US District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee issued a standing order regarding the reassignments of cases assigned to Senior District Judge R. Allan Edgar.
Seventh Circuit
Southern District of Illinois
The US District Court for the Southern District of Illinois announced that the Notice and Consent to Proceed Before a Magistrate Judge form may now be electronically filed.

Central District of California
The US District Court for the Central District of California issued a general order regarding procedures for appointing counsel to hospitalized defendants.
