Since 9 December 2015, it has been possible to launch a European long-term investment fund (ELTIF). This is the new type of alternative investment fund (AIF) that allows investors to invest in companies and projects that require long-term investment.

Since 9 December 2015, it has been possible to launch a European long-term investment fund (ELTIF). This is the new type of alternative investment fund (AIF) that allows investors to invest in companies and projects that require long-term investment.
Hailed by Brussels as a key part of European Commission President Juncker's investment plan and the capital markets union (CMU), this article looks at the asset manager's perspective on how the political ambitions can be put into practice and the potential challenges likely to be encountered.
