Jackson Lewis: Minneapolis Becomes First City in Minnesota to Require Paid Sick Leave | Practical Law

On May 27, 2016, the Minneapolis City Council passed the Minneapolis Sick and Safe Time Ordinance, which requires employers with six or more employees to provide paid sick leave to employees working in Minneapolis. Employers with five or fewer employees are required to provide unpaid sick leave to employees working in Minneapolis. The ordinance allows employees to use their sick time for themselves or qualifying family members and to use it in increments consistent with current payroll. In addition, the ordinance sets out notice requirements and details of enforcement. The rule becomes effective on July 1, 2017.
