Ad hoc arbitration

A form of arbitration where the parties and the arbitrators independently determine the procedure without the involvement of an arbitral institution. For an analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of ad hoc versus administered arbitration, see Practice note, Ad hoc arbitrations without institutional support.
