Adversary Proceeding

A lawsuit brought within a bankruptcy proceeding commenced by the filing of a complaint with the court, relating to a dispute between the debtor and a creditor or another interested party. Adversary proceedings are governed by Federal Rule of Bankruptcy Procedure 7001 and are commenced when a request for relief as a contested matter would not apply.
