An update on the commencement of the Scottish Arbitration Act 2010.
We have previously reported that the Arbitration (Scotland) Bill was passed in November 2009 and received Royal Assent on 5 January 2010 (see Legal updates, UK: anticipated developments in 2010 and Scottish Parliament passes Arbitration Bill). The commencement of the Arbitration (Scotland) Act 2010 is now expected to take place in May 2010, later than previously reported. The delay will provide the necessary time for the Rules of Court to be amended in accordance with the parts of the Act that require court support.
