This Law Firm Publication by Jackson Lewis LLP discusses amendments to the Minnesota Parental Leave Act (Minn. Stat. §§ 181.940-181.944). The amendments expand the definition of covered family members that employees may use their sick leave to care for beyond minor children. Covered family members will now also include the employee's spouse, siblings, adult children, parents, grandparents and stepparents. An employee may use at least 160 hours of sick time per 12-month period for this purpose. The amendments become effective on August 1, 2013.
