Institution for occupational retirement provision. An EU term for a funded occupational pension scheme or similar workplace pension arrangement established separately from the sponsoring employer. IORPs are governed by Directive 2003/41/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 3 June 2003 on the activities and supervision of institutions for occupational retirement provision (often referred to as the IORP directive).
