This Legal Update reports on significant changes to the local rules and procedures for all US federal district courts and appellate courts between July 2 and 8, 2014. It also reports on changes to the individual practice rules for the judges in select district courts during this period.
Third Circuit
District of Delaware
Judge Leonard P. Stark:
Announced new discovery and motions procedures for all civil cases.
The US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia updated its local rules by implementing Civil Local Rule 83.5. The new rule addresses the review of orders from the US Patent and Trademark Office concerning admission, suspension or exclusion to practice given that the venue for these cases had been moved from the District of Columbia to the Eastern District of Virginia. District of Minnesota
The US District Court for the District of Minnesota updated its ECF procedures guides for civil and criminal cases by adding the chamber’s e-mail address of Magistrate Judge Bowbeer for submitting proposed orders.
Western District of Missouri
The US District Court for the Western District of Missouri updated its CM/ECF civil and criminal administrative procedures manual and users guide. A copy of the previous version is available here.
Ninth Circuit
District of Arizona
The US District Court for the District of Arizona updated its administrative policies and procedures manual for electronic case filing. The court included additional e-mail addresses to be used only for sending proposed orders to judges. A copy of the previous version is available here.
Central District of California
The US District Court for the Central District of California updated its exceptions to electronic filing.
Magistrate Judge Kenly Kiya Kato added rules for mandatory chambers copies on e-filed documents.
Northern District of California
The US District Court for the Northern District of California posted a notice that as of Wednesday, August 7, 2013, Judge Jon S. Tigar will be assigned Oakland-venued criminal cases. Judge Tigar will no longer be assigned new San Francisco-venued criminal cases.
Eleventh Circuit
Southern District of Alabama
The US District Court for the Southern District of Alabama posted a new transcript information form.
