Additur

A procedure by which a court increases the amount of damages awarded by the jury (compare to remittitur ( www.practicallaw.com/3-600-1247) ). A party may move for additur, or the court may sua sponte ( www.practicallaw.com/7-508-6405) order additur, if the jury awards an inadequate amount of damages. Additur allows the court to assess and increase the jury award without a re-trial.
