On 4 March 2008, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) announced a proposed settlement requiring Cookson Group plc (Cookson) and Foseco plc (Foseco) to divest Foseco's US carbon bonded ceramic business (CBC) in order to resolve charges that Cookson's proposed acquisition of Foseco would substantially lessen competition in violation of section 7 of the Clayton Act.
