In June 2009, the SCC held a two day arbitration conference in Moscow devoted to the SCC rules and procedures, and the framework for international commercial arbitration in Russia. The conference, which was well attended by Russian and foreign in-house counsel and lawyers, was led by internationally renowned experts in the field of international arbitration from Sweden and Russia.
In June 2009, the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC) held a two day arbitration conference in Moscow devoted to the SCC rules and procedures, and the framework for international commercial arbitration in Russia. The participants discussed procedural aspects and specifics of SCC arbitration proceedings, from the outset of arbitration through to the recognition and enforcement stage - including issues of arbitrability, succession, interim measures and the enforcement of foreign arbitral awards in Russia. Due attention was also given to important practical considerations in organising arbitral proceedings. Participants were provided with examples of key procedural documents, including a request for arbitration and an answer, and had the opportunity to have their arbitration clauses and agreements discussed by the expert panel.
The conference, which was well attended by Russian and foreign in-house counsel and lawyers, was led by internationally renowned experts in the field of international arbitration from Sweden and Russia including, among others,
  • The Secretary General of the SCC Arbitration Institute, Mr. Ulf Franke.
  • The President and Vice-President of the International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, Professor Alexander Komarov and Professor Ivan Zykin respectively.
  • The President of the International Maritime Arbitration Commission at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, Professor Sergei Lebedev.
  • The Professor of the Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences, Boris Karabelnikov.
Other featured speakers included recognised practitioners from Swedish and Russian law firms active in international arbitration. Legal Counsel of the SCC Arbitration Institute, Mrs. Natalia Petrik, also shared valuable information on the work of the SCC Secretariat, the decision making process of the Board and cost aspects of the proceedings.
