On 13 May 2010, Kiev hosted an international conference entitled "International Arbitration Court ICC: opportunities for Ukrainian business". The conference was organised by International Chamber of Commerce Ukraine (an ICC national committee) and a local conference company.
During the conference talks were given by representatives of ICC Arbitration Court, leading international and local law firms and in-house lawyers from companies engaged in ICC arbitration.
Galina Zhukova, Counsellor of the Secretariat of the ICC International Court of Arbitration for Eastern Europe, Russia and the CIS countries (Paris) described the peculiarities of ICC arbitration, focusing specifically on proceedings involving companies from CIS countries.
The representatives of the Ukrainian and international law firms examined:
  • The most common mistakes made in the drafting of arbitration agreements, including examples of invalid agreements.
  • Theoretical and practical aspects of choosing an arbitral institution.
  • Selecting arbitrators.
  • The recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards in Ukraine.
A talk was also given on the proliferation of investment arbitrations against the Ukraine which, so far, has not lost a single investment related dispute.
