An update on the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators launching a new chapter in the Bahamas.
The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) launched its Bahamas chapter at an event held on 7 June 2010 at the British Colonial Hilton. The President of the Institute (Mr Joe Behan) and Trustees of the Institute (representing North America, Europe and Africa) participated in the event. Delegates from Jamaica, Barbados, and Trinidad and Tobago also attended.
The Bahamas recently enacted legislation (the Arbitration Act 2009 and the Arbitration (Foreign Arbitral Awards) Act 2009) in an attempt to position itself as a leading seat for domestic and international arbitration.
