The Environment Agency (EA) sent the first CRC Participant Update to participants in the CRC on 10 November 2010. CRC Participant Updates will be issued to participants on a regular basis to inform them of the next steps they should take towards compliance with the scheme.
The first update confirms that:
  • Notwithstanding the recent changes to the CRC announced in the Spending Review 2010 (SR 2010), participants will still be required to submit their footprint report and first annual report in respect of the Introductory Phase (1 April 2010 to 31 March 2011) by no later than 29 July 2011. Participants will receive an e-mail inviting them to workshops to be held in early 2011, which will provide further guidance on the reporting process.
  • As a result of the announcement in the SR 2010 that the fixed price sale of allowances for 2011/12 would take place in 2012, the EA has decided to postpone the requirement to open compliance accounts and nominate account representatives. More information about this will be provided by the EA at the beginning of 2011.
The Department of Energy and Climate Change has confirmed on its website that the government aims to begin a public dialogue with participants on proposals to simplify the scheme, shortly.
