Summaries of Benefits and Coverage under the ACA

This Note addresses the requirement under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that group health plans and insurers provide participants and beneficiaries with four-page (double-sided) summaries of benefits and coverage available under the plan. This disclosure requirement includes coverage examples and a uniform glossary that were developed in coordination with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).
