Generator

Refers to either:
  • A machine or device that transforms heat, chemical, or mechanical energy into electric energy. For example, a generator connected to a wind turbine converts the motion of air to produce electricity. The generator is the center of a generating station.
  • A facility that produces only electricity. Electric generators include electric utilities and independent power producers.
