The US Department of Commerce has issued a notice of inquiry concerning its evaluation of incentives aimed to promote participation in a voluntary program to support the adoption by operators and owners of critical infrastructure of the Cybersecurity Framework.
On March 28, 2013, the US Department of Commerce published a Notice of Inquiry in the Federal Register concerning its evaluation of incentives designed to promote participation in a voluntary program for adoption by owners and operators of critical infrastructure of the Cybersecurity Framework being developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The evaluation is required by President Obama's February 12, 2013 Executive Order on Cybersecurity and will analyze:
  • The incentives' benefits and relative effectiveness.
  • Whether the incentives would require legislation or can be provided for under existing law and authorities.
The Department of Commerce is seeking comments in response to a list of questions set out in the notice. Interested parties should e-mail comments to [email protected] by April 29, 2013.
