This Law Firm Publication by Ford & Harrison LLP discusses the February 5, 2014 vote by the Tennessee Senate to strike down an amendment to the state's "guns in trunks" law, which would have prohibited Tennessee employers from terminating gun owners based on the exercise of their rights protected by the law. Although this appears to be a victory for employers, the conflicting interpretations of whether the "guns in trunks" law affects an employer's ability to lawfully terminate an employee for violating the company's no guns at work policy by Tennessee's Attorney General and Lieutenant Governor make it unclear how courts will decide the issue.
