Developments that may be of interest to arbitration practitioners for the week to 23 September 2015.
We report in brief below on other developments that may be of interest to arbitration practitioners:
- The Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) has appointed Maria-Krystyna Duval to the position of Managing Counsel. Ms Duval, who commenced the role at HKIAC in August 2015, has worked with several major international law firms in Paris and London, as well as a number of international organisations.
- In what has been a very busy month, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) has made further announcements during the last week, including:
- the launch of new International Arbitration Practice Guidelines, which are due to be published at the beginning of October, in order to promote consistent decision making and to identify current best practice in international commercial arbitration;
- signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Kingdom of Bahrain, to promote collaboration in training, professional development, education and all services relevant to private dispute resolution;
- publishing a statement by CIArb Director General Anthony Abrahams, which sets out his concerns regarding the European Commission's proposal for an investment court system for EU trade agreements (the Commission's proposal is discussed in Legal update, European Commission proposes Investment Court System for EU trade agreements).
