On 22 September 2009, the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the US Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that they will hold a series of joint public workshops to examine potential updates to the Horizontal Merger Guidelines that both agencies use when evaluating the competitive effects of mergers and acquisitions.
