American Arbitration Association (AAA)

The largest full-service alternative dispute resolution provider in the US. The AAA's administrative services include:
  • Arranging hearings.
  • Providing users with information on dispute resolution options, including settlement through mediation.
  • Acting as the appointing authority in, as well as administering arbitrations.
  • Assisting in the appointment of mediators and arbitrators.
  • Helping parties and arbitrators conduct cases under the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Arbitration Rules.
The AAA has various rules and procedures for AAA-administered arbitrations (see Practice Note, AAA Arbitration: A Step-By-Step Guide).
A specific set of procedures applies to AAA-administered UNCITRAL arbitrations.
When parties select the AAA for an international case, the International Centre for Dispute Resolution's (ICDR) International Dispute Resolution Procedures will apply unless the parties have expressly provided for the AAA Commercial Arbitration Rules in their arbitration agreement.
