Law stated as at 14 Mar 2017International
This note explains the development of the mechanism for reducing carbon emissions from forestry-related activities in developing countries, known as REDD+, under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
REDD+ stands for reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation of forests, sustainable management of forests, and conservation and enhancement of forest carbon stocks, in developing countries.
This note analyses the framework for REDD+ that was agreed by UNFCCC parties in Cancun in December 2010 and issues faced by the REDD+ mechanism. It also summarises some of the REDD+ projects, such as the UN-REDD Programme.
