Statutory Dispute

A dispute concerning rights and obligations under the Railway Labor Act (RLA) not assigned to an administrative agency to enforce. Examples include employees' right to select a union to bargain collectively in their interests and the obligation on employers and unions to bargain in good faith.
Statutory disputes are litigated in federal court. Remedies include:
  • Legal damages for violations of the RLA.
  • Equitable relief to stop or prevent violations of the RLA.
