Jackson Lewis: New York to Reduce Tip Credit by Year's End | Practical Law

This wage and hour Law Firm Publication by Jackson Lewis, P.C. addresses the New York Commissioner of Labor's order that, effective December 31, 2015, cash wages for tipped workers will rise to $7.50 as the tip credit will be reduced to $1.50 per hour off of the new minimum hourly wage of $9.00. The Commissioner accepted orders by the Wage Board that $1 per hour be added to the New York City tip credit if its minimum wage rises higher than the state minimum wage and that a single tip credit apply to all hospitality service employees. However, he rejected a proposed $1 increase in the tip credit for all state employers in circumstances when certain compensation levels were met.
