The Party Wall etc. Act 1996 (PWA 1996) as originally enacted. This Act came into force on 1 July, 1997 and made provision for works to existing party walls, the construction of new party walls and excavations near buildings on adjoining land. The Act effectively extended the legislation on party walls which previously governed party walls in London only, to the whole of England and Wales.
